After 4 years of absence, I set foot again on German soil on Friday. I had a lovely welcome back by my family and long-time friends and spent the first few days adjusting to the German climate, cuisine and mentality in Munich.
To fight the jet-lag I went for an easy spin on the cycle paths around Munich. Luckily there are cycle lanes everywhere because on my first attempt on riding on the road I instantly turned onto the wrong side of the road. Not a good idea in a town like Munich! At least I was safe on the bike path below- an old army runway that has been turned into a recreation area.
I also got my first sight of the Alps when we went for a wee walk around the Spitzingsee. These mountains are stunning and I can't wait to get my bike up there!
My parents drove all the way down to Munich to give me their car. We loaded the van with two bikes, three bags, plenty of camping gear and all other essentials one might need for half a year and I hit the road (on the correct side this time) to make my way to Constanz.
My friend Denise was due to give birth to baby number 2 that weekend. Unfortunately, little Henri timed it perfectly to join us just as I set off. At least I have a good reason (or excuse) for another visit to Munich over the next months.
