The fourth round of the the Internationl MTB Bundesliga took place in the small village of Neustadt (Germany) which is famous for it's ski jumping stadium. It was an impressive setting for a race and worth a wee exploring the day before.
The start was located on the landing slope of the ski jump which we had to climb in every lap.
The race attracted a high-quality field with riders keen to earn valuable UCI points. About 80% of the track was single trail which consisted of freshly cut, natural forest trails which was super fun to ride.
In lap 5 I decided to take a closer look at this part of the track that I had photographed the day before during practise- and I was just thinking of how much I'm enjoying these downhills- ops.
The last two laps were good character building. It was now obvious that it will be a 2 hour race at threshold so I was more than happy to see the finish line in front of me coming in 12th place.
It is incredible to see how such small villages/clubs put events on like these. There were 2 full days of racing including an XC Elimantor and age group racing. Also the support along the course was fantastic. Lots of people came out to cheer us all. I had goosebumps and the feeling reminded me of playing 2nd Bundesliga (National League) Volleyball in front of a full house some 10 years ago.
