This multisport race at Lake Constance (near Radolfzell) is in it's 12th running and consists of:
1.5 km swimming
42 km road biking
20 km inline skating
36 km mountain biking
10 km running
It can be raced as an individual or in teams of 2 to 5 people. We had entered in the 5 person mixed category as Team Zweirad Joos. We had a couple of national champs in their respective disciplines in our team and me in the MTB leg, obviously. It was a huge event with over 2000 participants and an impressive set-up.

When our swimmer was already in the water at the early hour of 8 am, I made my way to the event village casually along the beautiful Bodensee (Lake Constance).

Now it was time for me to warm-up and get race ready.

Michael got us back into the second place in our category. It would be a big ask to defend this place against the guys riding for the other teams. Especially with the lag of climbing (600 m) over the 32 km and the lag of technical riding. The first 8 km I was on my own. I went into time-trail mode on the flat roads. Finally I reached the two main climbs where I wanted to use my strength and pull some time back.
Enjoying the little bit of single trail.
After the hills we had 20 km flat stretch home over sealed and gravel roads with a nice head wind. To my delight I saw a rider approaching fast from behind and I had someone to work with all the way home. Bless him! In the end I lost 8 minutes to the mixed team ahead of us and kept us in 2nd place. Meanwhile my riding buddy clocked the fastest MTB time.
Following and friendly and fast wheel home.
Pretty stuffed I tagged our runner (Gabor). He defended our 2nd place and we all crossed the line together.
I loved being part of a team.
It was a super cool event and extremely well organised. I'll be back next year! Of course, the old multisport athlete/adventure racer in me would love to the enter the race as an individual. :)
